None of the original fabric remains other than the external walls. It is suffering from structural problems that could lead to full or partial collapse, and there is an immediate threat of further deterioration. A dramatically sited ruin of mid 19th century castle built to design of EW Godwin for the 3rd Earl of Limerick. Godwin researched medieval Irish buildings and included a round tower to evoke the silhouette of the Rock of Cashel. The residential use ceased during World War I and the building became deroofed in 1950s. A number of restoration proposals have not proceeded. The structure is of significant historic importance and requires conservation works to prevent further deterioration.
