An Taisce is the National Operator for all international environmental education programmes of FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), including the Blue Flag Award for Beaches and Marinas and Green-Schools, the international environmental education programme in operation across 94% of Irish schools. In 1993, An Taisce made a strategic move to prioritise environmental education, building on our history of educational initiatives. This approach broadened the scope of education to encompass inclusive community engagement in environmental awareness and sustainable development. Our action-oriented perspective led to the adoption and national coordination of the Blue Flag programme for beaches and marinas, swiftly followed by the Green-Schools programme, aimed at fostering an environmental ethos within schools. Over the years, this initiative has grown significantly, both in its scale and the breadth of its activities. Today, it encompasses a wide array of campaigns and programmes that address environmental and sustainability issues across various sectors, marking a strong commitment to promoting ecological consciousness and actions that support a sustainable future. An Taisce also operates the national programmes shown below. Image by Gustavo Zoladz Manage Cookie Preferences
