Submission on the Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment for the Dalradian Gold Mine Project Image of Sperrin Mountain range: Google Maps The view from An Taisce: On the basis of the points in this submission, we recommend that permission for the project be refused. In particular, we would reemphasise that is our view that there has been a wholly inadequate assessment for both Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Habitats Directive. The application documentation has failed to adequately assess the development from an Article 4 WFD perspective, and as such, the relevant authority cannot discharge their obligation as provided by Article 4(1) of the WFD. It is also our view that this lack of assessment of Natura 2000 sites further downstream from the development site, including the River Finn and Lough Foyle SPA, contravenes the requirements of the Habitats Directive. Mining is not only energy intensive but also irreversibly damages ecosystems and puts water quality at a high risk of pollution.
